What's New for 2019?

Ford made few notable changes to the Explorer for 2019, other than switching up the available packages on the trims. The XLT trim level now offers three new packages that weren't available last year, including the Driver Connect package, the Cold Weather package, and the Safe and Smart package. The Driver Connect package adds Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility and a power liftgate. The Cold Weather package adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The Safe and Smart Package adds numerous advanced safety features, including rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high beams, and blind spot monitoring.

Performance and Capability

The 2019 Ford Explorer offers lively acceleration for getting around on your daily commute, with a 0 to 60 time of just 6.3 seconds. There are two other optional motors, including a 280-horsepower four-cylinder engine and a twin-turbocharged 365-horsepower V6. Drivers in the Ishpeming and Negaunee areas who do a lot of towing will like that the new Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Explorer, but four-wheel drive is available. Four settings are available in the Explorer's Terrain Management System (Mud, Sand, Gravel, and Grass or Snow) that you can switch from on the fly for optimum traction on a variety of surfaces.
